Liverpool could “certainly” do a deal with Flamengo over Joao Gomes for around £27.5m, according to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola.

The Reds have been linked with the 21-year-old for a while now.

In September, 90Min reported that Gomes has been on the radar of Liverpool for ‘a number of seasons’.

As well as Liverpool, the likes of Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Lyon have also been linked.

Now, Nicola has provided a YouTube update on the speculation linking the Anfield outfit with the Brazilian talent.

As per Sport Witness, the reporter claims that Flamengo would ‘certainly make a deal’ for €32m and let the player join Liverpool.

However, Nicola also managed to speak to a source at the Rio de Janeiro club, and was told there’s ‘no offer like that’ yet.

The journalist adds that it’s ‘natural’ that Gomes departs Flamengo next year, since he’s been showing great potential at the club.

However, he considers it ‘extremely steep’ that he would go to Liverpool for €32m, because that may be too much for him.

Gomes recently signed a new contract at Flamengo until 2027, which features a €60m (£51.5m) release clause.

‘Liverpool are a team I’d play for’

Liverpool could certainly do with bolstering their midfield ranks over the next two transfer windows.

And Gomes would be a great shout, as he’s been making a name for himself as one of the top talents in Brazil.

In addition, the ‘immense‘ talent – who has been compared to Fabinho – has made it clear he’d welcome a switch to Liverpool.

Earlier this month, Gomes held an Instagram Live Q&A in which he was asked whether he would be interested in a move to the Premier League, specifically with Liverpool.

“Liverpool are a team I’d play for,” he said. “I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream in football.”
