‘Liverpool are interested’: Journalist claims Liverpool would love to sign ‘special’ 23-year-old if Salah leaves

Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool is a very scary but very real prospect over the next 12 months.

The Egyptian is entering the final 18 months of his contract at Anfield, and there is well-known strong interest from Saudi Arabia.

The reality is that Liverpool have to be planning for life without Salah at some point, and, apparently there are already a few ideas being banded around Anfield as to who could replace the Egyptian King.

The likes of Leroy Sane have been linked recently, but according to Steve Kay, speaking on KS1TV, Pedro Neto is a player that is of interest to Liverpool in the event that Salah does depart.

Neto eyed as Salah replacement

Kay shared what he knows about the ‘special’ winger.

“There are a lot of clubs who are interested in him. I know that Liverpool are interested in him, especially if Salah leaves, he could be a replacement for him, but it seems as though he’s been around for ages now, but he’s only around 23 years old. He’s definitely someone I would love,” Kay said.

Not prolific enough

As talented a player as Neto is, we’d have some serious question around this move if it were to go ahead.

Indeed, as much as we like Neto as a player, Salah would leave huge shoes to fill, and he’s probably not up to the task.

Salah has been guaranteed 20 goals a season ever since he joined Liverpool. Meanwhile, Neto doesn’t even have 20 Premier League goals to his name in his career.

Of course, there’s room to grow and improve, but if you’re replacing Salah, you need to be the finished product, and Neto just isn’t that, at least not yet anyway.

Liverpool may need to look elsewhere if they’re thinking about signing a Salah replacement.
