The news will likely be confirmed by the club this weekend.
Fridays are not usually this busy, and here we are. Feyenoord and Liverpool have reportedly come to an agreement for the hiring of Arne Slot to take over Liverpool in the summer following Jürgen Klopp’s departure.
The news broke Friday evening GMT, with Adam Crafton at The Athletic reporting that the two teams have agreed upon a compensation package for the 45 year old Dutchman that will allow him to move to Merseyside at the conclusion of the Eredivisie’s season. Feyenoord had previously rejected the Reds’ first offer for the manager earlier in the week, but it appears after Slot’s confidence yesterday, the deal did indeed get done quickly.
Crafton also reports that Slot will be bringing assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff and Feyenoord’s heads of performance Ruben Peeters alongside him to fill in the gaps that Pep Ljinders and Peter Krawietz will leave behind.
Additional: Liverpool also poaching Sipke Hulshoff, an assistant coach at Feyenoord, as well as Ruben Peeters, their head of performance - both to join along with Arne Slot subject to necessary visas etc. https://t.co/STCJfGlO5S https://t.co/20TeCKOcbc
— Adam Crafton (@AdamCrafton_) April 26, 2024Klopp himself appeared to endorse the choice in his pre-match presser on Friday when asked.
“What I like a lot about it is if he is the one then he wants to take the job – he’s desperate, excited, let’s go for it,” said Klopp.
“I like the way his team play football and all the things I hear about him as a guy. Some people I know, know him, I don’t know him yet. Good coach, good guy.
“If he’s the solution for the club then I am more than happy. It’s not up to me to judge but it all sounds really good to me.”
If these reports turn out to be true, because nothing is true until the club says so, it will truly mean the end of the Klopp era. Confirmation will likely come Sunday or Monday following the match against West Ham on Saturday.
