138 Liverpool have had some truly amazing strikers over the years.
Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Roberto Firmino, the list goes on and on.
However, perhaps the greatest striker to ever play for the Reds is Ian Rush.
The Welshman is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, but, for one reason or another, he barely gets a mention when it comes to the greatest strikers in history.
Indeed, you rarely see Rush topping any lists or even being part of many discussions when it comes to the best strikers to ever play in this country.
However, there is one Premier League player who has now gone out to bat for Rush in a big way.
Indeed, taking part in a TikTok challenge for Pro Direct Soccer, Levi Colwill has actually ranked Rush as his number one striker to ever play in the Premier League, even putting him ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Now, of course, Ronaldo does leave behind a better legacy than Rush, but in terms of their contributions during their time in England, Rush may actually be ahead of CR7.
Indeed, Rush won more trophies with Liverpool than Ronaldo did with Manchester United, and his goalscoring record was also much better.
Of course, the fact that Rush’s best years came in the pre-Premier League era doesn’t help the conversation around his legacy, but as any Liverpool fan of a certain vintage will be able to tell you, Rush knew how to find the back of the net better than anyone who’s put on a red shirt before or since.
Ronaldo is, of course, one of the greatest players to ever play the game, but so too is Rush, and when you’re talking about the best attackers to ever play in England, the Welshman deserves much more credit than he often gets.
Fair play to Levi Colwill for recognising Rush as the great that he is.
