Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp stunned the football world on Friday when he announced he would be leaving Anfield at the end of the season.

The 56-year-old, whose Reds contract was due to run until the summer of 2026, attributed his decision to “running out of energy”.

Klopp also confirmed that he had told the Liverpool bosses about his intention to stand down back in November last year.

The Guardian reported that Klopp told the Reds players of his decision before training on Friday.

Plenty of figures from the world of sport have reacted to the news, and now basketball legend LeBron James has wished Klopp well too.

The Los Angeles Lakers star took to X to thank the Liverpool boss for everything he’s done “and more” at Anfield.

James added: “You are one helluva manager and you’ll never be forgotten and more importantly YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE!! The Reds will miss you!”

Liverpool will hope to give Jurgen Klopp best possible Anfield send-off

Klopp’s impact at Liverpool has been nothing short of seismic.

When he first took the reins at Anfield, the Reds were in a slump. The only major trophy they had won in a while was the League Cup.

Klopp set about rebuilding Liverpool and, within a few years, had them challenging for titles and cups, such as getting them to the Champions League final in 2018.

A year later, Liverpool went on to lift Europe’s top title, and 12 months on, the Reds won the one trophy that they had wanted more than any after so long – the Premier League title.

Let’s hope the Liverpool team can give Klopp a great send-off by lifting yet more major trophies this season. There’s certainly added impetus for them to step their game up even further now.
