The Reds got their groove back as they rolled passed West Ham and into the final four of the Carabao Cup.

The Anfield mojo was back on Wednesday when Liverpool easily outpaced West Ham to advance to the Carabao Cup semi-finals. The Reds scored five on the night with Curtis Jones bagging himself a brace. The only thing missing from the victory was a clean sheet for Kelleher, which was lost in the 77th minute when Jarrod Bowen scored a consolation goal for the visitors.

After the match, Jürgen Klopp spoke about the difference between Wednesday’s game and the scoreless draw last weekend against Manchester United.

“Of course there was a difference – things clicked tonight,” Klopp said. “A couple of things didn’t click on Sunday. I’m not sure I’m allowed to talk about what they did, to be honest, because everybody is really going for you and I am not sure I want to have that... it was just we played against a deep-defending opponent on Sunday.”

Regarding this much more favorable result, the boss put it down to the whims of luck.

“We shot 30-odd times on the goal anyway [against Manchester United] and didn’t hit it because of some good goalie saves and sometimes because our decision-making was not great,” he said.

“Tonight we scored in these moments. Sometimes the difference is sometimes the inch on the foot of a player, if the ball goes or not. That happened tonight with Dom’s 1-0, but left and right of this goal the difference was not too big.”

The domestic cups are always a great way for the more fringe players to get first team experience. More importantly, the provide the opportunity to for Liverpool to add to their considerable trophy case.

The last time Liverpool won the Carabao Cup was against Manchester City in 2022. A victory this season would be the club’s 10th.
