The Reds shipped three at home on Thursday

Ahead of Liverpool’s return to Premier League action against Crystal Palace this weekend following deep disappointment on Thursday, head coach Jürgen Klopp addressed concerns about his ability to “ensure” the malaise did not continue into the next fixture:

“First and foremost, I cannot ensure that, never could. But still it is the job I have to do.

“I don’t think it’s a general low point, even when you can see it like that as well — it was performance-wise a low point. The good thing about a really bad performance is that it’s easy to play better. So we should start from there.

“First and foremost, this tonight must feel bad, and it does. I told the boys, ‘Take it home, nobody will sleep great and then tomorrow we come together.’ The boys who started recover and all the others get a proper session and then you go from there. And then on Saturday we will start preparing for Palace.

“Yes, we have to show a reaction. Definitely, 100 per cent, that is clear. But I cannot plan the reaction 20 minutes after the game. I will think about that. It is now not the first time in my life that I lost a football game, unfortunately.

“And yes, we will show a reaction, I can promise.”

The first leg defeat was Klopp’s largest in a full Anfield.
