Liverpool will look to get over the line in the Europa League when they head to Toulouse on Thursday evening.

A win would see Jurgen Klopp‘s Reds qualify for the knockout stages of the competition with two games to spare.

If Liverpool claim victory and Union SG fail to win away to LASK, the Reds would be confirmed as group winners and avoid a knockout play-off round in February.

Klopp is likely to rotate his starting XI for the match as he looks to manage his players’ workload while competing on four fronts.

Virgil van Dijk won’t be playing in the match due to illness, so the likelihood is Jarell Quansah will come in and probably partner Joel Matip at centre-back.

Quansah has come a long way in the past few months, with Klopp even admitting that he would’ve been surprised by his quality if you had asked him in pre-season.

“If you would have asked me pre-season (if) he would be that good I would have been surprised,” he said at his pre-match presser, via The Independent.

“But since then I saw him every day and I am not surprised any more.

“It’s great to have a boy from our own academy with that potential and quality. We will see where he ends up but it is extremely promising.

“There was talk about him going on loan and we said ‘no’, that was obviously a very good decision.”

Quansah a ‘fantastic’ Liverpool talent

Quansah made his Liverpool debut away at Newcastle at the start of the season and has clocked up seven senior appearances so far.

The Anfield academy ace has risen through the Reds ranks over the past 15 years, going on to shine for the Under-21s before making his debut this term.

He also impressed on loan at Bristol Rovers last season and won the Under-19 European championship with England in 2021. He is now with the nation’s Under-21s.

Klopp, speaking to the Liverpool media team in September, said Quansah is a “fantastic” talent who had a “super” pre-season, and suggested he won’t hesitate to play him again.

The Reds boss clearly rates him highly and it’ll be good to see how he continues to fare for the Anfield outfit.
