Craig Burley has lauded Mohamed Salah after the forward scored his 200th Liverpool goal on Saturday, and shared what is so easily overlooked about his time at Anfield.
Burley was speaking on ESPN after Salah brought up the double century with a late goal to equalise for the Reds in their dramatic 2-1 win at Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Mohamed Salah will definitely score better goals in what remains of his time on Merseyside. But his deflected effort during the second-half this weekend proved to be incredibly important in the context of the game, giving Liverpool a lifeline after struggling against the Eagles.

However, it was also significant as it proved to be Salah’s 200th goal for the club. He is now fifth on the list of Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorers, with the likes of Roger Hunt and Ian Rush still ahead of him.

And certainly, Craig Burley is not sure that Salah gets enough credit considering that, unlike all of the names ahead of him, the 31-year-old has never been the striker for the Reds.
“All of these were goalscorers. Roger Hunt. I think we forget Salah’s a wide guy,” he told ESPN. “Now, I get it, the modern day, the game’s changed. And the way teams play. But he’s affectively a right winger.
“He’s not somebody that is goal-hanging, playing through the middle. So I think it makes the achievement even better in the fact that he does do his fair share of working back the other way. He does work hard. And to do it from that position where he’s played for Liverpool is just unbelievable.”
Reds now top without hitting top gear
Salah definitely has to be one of the best signings any club has made in the Premier League era. When the Reds spent £34 million on him, it appeared to be a gamble considering his underwhelming spell at Chelsea.
However, that move has proved to be a masterstroke. Salah now has 287 goal contributions 324 games for the club.
That is an outrageous return. And with 11 goals in the league already this season, there are absolutely no signs whatsoever that Salah is slowing down and approaching the end of his peak.
Ominously for the other sides, Liverpool are now top of the table without finding anything like their top gear.
