‘Just a luxury’: Craig Burley now says Liverpool player is a passenger right now, he can’t see that changing

Liverpool fans won’t want to watch back yesterday’s match against Brighton any time soon after a dismal display.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were second best in every department and could have lost by more than three goals on the day.

Speaking on ESPN FC, Craig Burley was speaking about Liverpool’s poor performance.

The balance of Klopp’s team hasn’t looked right for some time, and individually plenty of his squad are very out of form.

The reaction of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the build-up to Brighton’s third goal summed up their performance.

The right-back stood and watched as his man drifted into the box unmarked, although Danny Welbeck didn’t need him as he coolly slotted past Alisson Becker.

Burley also highlighted how Thiago Alcantara has become a passenger in the Liverpool team.

The Reds lack of control over games means the Spanish international has struggled to make an impact.

He’s certainly not alone in playing poorly for Liverpool, but Klopp’s lack of other options in midfield have highlighted his struggles.

Thiago a passenger for Liverpool – Burley

Speaking to ESPN FC about Liverpool’s struggles, Burley said: “It’s been going on now since the start of the season.

“I thought the World Cup break might have helped but it hasn’t.

“We talked about Thiago the other week, in a team that’s not dominating and not playing well, he’s just a luxury.

“I can’t see them turning this around quickly, I can’t.”

There have been calls in recent times for Klopp to drop Thiago, despite his obvious quality.

The calls will continue to get louder and louder to bring in a quality midfielder either in January or the summer.

Jude Bellingham is the name on every Liverpool fan’s lips, and the Reds are front-runners to sign him.

However, it’s looking less and less likely that they’ll have Champions League football to offer him next season.

Thiago cannot afford to be a passenger for much longer in this Liverpool team.

Burley has recently said that Thiago is a bugbear of his, and has doubled down on those comments today.

He needs to put in a good performance against Chelsea next weekend in what is a huge game for both clubs Champions League ambitions.
