Jurgen Klopp shares what he told Liverpool's players about Arsenal in team meeting before yesterday's game

There’s no doubt that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with his side’s result and comeback against Arsenal yesterday.

Although it seems strange to call a 2-0 win a ‘comeback’, that’s exactly what it was.

Liverpool were dominated in the first half and were fortunate not to go into the break at least a goal behind.

That being said, Klopp’s side then produced a masterclass in the second half, learning from all that went wrong in the first.

And when speaking in his press conference after the game, Klopp revealed what he told his Liverpool players before their meeting with Arsenal.

The German’s words were spot on for preparing his side for the initial onslaught they faced, reminding his team to stick together during the tough moments.

Klopp told his team: “I said to the boys in the meeting before the game: humans are like that. It’s a tough game, nobody comes to Arsenal and wins just like this [clicks fingers].

“So in this game there will be difficult moments [and] if we start in these moments – which humans very often do – [looking] for excuses and then we realise who else is not here, it’s normal that we have these problems, then we are screwed.”

Of course, his Liverpool players did stick together and eventually battled through to a 2-0 win that sees them into the next round.

Perhaps what will be most satisfying in the performance was the role of the young subs introduced.

Liverpool are currently without a host of first-team players and their squad is being stretched very thin.

However, both Bobby Clark and Conor Bradley made a real difference when introduced, two talents who reacted well to their manager’s faith.

Bradley in particular was excellent at right back – a performance which really impressed Alan Shearer.

There’s so much to be positive about at Liverpool right now.

And rather than surviving the period in which Mohamed Salah is away, it seems several players will thrive with their new opportunity.

Although he didn’t score yesterday, Darwin Nunez looked dangerous throughout – even more so when he moved to the left.

And fans will be exciting to watch their side in the EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
