In his final interview, the manager spoke of his sense of belonging at the club.
It’s the day of Jurgen Klopp’s last match as Liverpool manager, and in his final interview, the gaffer spoke about how Liverpool felt like home right from the start.
“We all felt at home, we all felt welcomed. That’s what we all felt from the start, that’s the special thing about the people in this area, Scousers, it’s really special. We felt supported, we felt loved, we felt everything”, he said.
Supporters and the squad have been dreading this day since Klopp announced his departure in January. And he admitted that it’s a hard goodbye for him as well.
“It fitted like a glove from the first day until today, and that’s why it’s so tricky and emotional to say goodbye, even knowing it’s 100 per cent the right thing to do”, he said.
“Probably meanwhile a lot more people see it the same way than in January when I announced it. And I’m really happy that we put this team on the rails and now somebody else will come in and help them to make the decisive yards”.
Klopp signaled his keenness to stay connected with the city of Liverpool in various roles, which will offer hope to many amidst the general sadness of the day.
“I’m pretty sure the club doesn’t need my help in the future but I might be able to help the city a little bit with a few things – with showing up, putting some attention on different things – and I would love to do that, to be honest. Not as a threat, but I’ll be back!”, he said.
