Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shared a welcome transfer development as deadline day edges ever closer.

The Reds boss, speaking to the Anfield media team, has admitted that the club is now eyeing a new midfielder.

In pre-season, Klopp suggested that Liverpool did not need to reinforce in midfield this summer.

However, the Reds boss now finds himself without four midfield stars, who have been sidelined through injury.

Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are currently unavailable.

Liverpool have begun the Premier League season poorly, losing one and drawing two of their three games so far.

Klopp now admits that the Anfield outfit is proactively trying to recruit a new midfielder before Thursday’s deadline.

The Liverpool media team asked the Reds boss whether he feels the need to sign a new midfielder in the coming days.

He replied: “There’s really nothing to say about it because we are looking for it and if it is the right player we need him, if it is not the right player we don’t need him.”

“You were all right and I was wrong”

When asked whether his U-turn has come about due to injuries and the slow start to the season, Klopp answered: “That changed.

“I know we have had this discussion now since it all started, I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder and now we go looking for a midfielder.”

Klopp then joked: “You were all right and I was wrong!

“That’s the situation but that specific point doesn’t change.

“If we will do something, then it has to be the right one, that’s how it is.

“So, again, Curtis comes back, Thiago not too far off, Diogo not too far off, Joel comes back.

“That all eases the situation slightly, it would be great if nobody gets on the [injury] list on the other side.

“But yeah, a really intense time coming up, we know all that. It’s just we cannot change, or we will not change, for that now the way we deal with the situation so there is nothing really for me to say to you in this moment.

“So, let’s see.”
