Today is the first day of Slot’s Liverpool tenure.
After all of the hubbub, it’s almost anti-climactic that Arne Slot officially began his tenure as Liverpool Head Coach. No interviews or carefully staged photographs of the new boss yet, but those are imminent.
Slot has plenty of work to do with the transfer committee, installing his own backroom staff, getting to know the players, and beginning preparations for the preseason tour.
The players are all on much needed summer breaks at the moment, so he’ll be focused on the behind the scenes work for the next month or so. There’s two weeks until the summer transfer window opens, and this is going to be a transitionally year, with several players leaving and arriving. Slot will be working with the transfer committee and his team to ensure that the players coming in are ones that fit his vision for the team moving forward.
[Editor’s note / spoiler alert: If you’re interested in learning what type of vision that will be, stay tuned for a post about that from Audun, the resident TLO tactics expert — coming soon!]
There’s plenty of summer craziness happening in football with the European Championship and the 2024 Olympics both coming up. The players aren’t expected to start trickling back to training until July. After that, it’s a jump right into the US preseason tour, which kicks off in Pennsylvania on 26th July against Real Betis.
So enjoy the next two weeks. This is the calm before the storm of what is sure to be a wild summer.
