Journalist says Liverpool are one of the only teams that could hijack Tottenham’s £30m move

Antonio Nusa could be signing for Tottenham before the end of the January transfer window.

The young attacker is said to be a target for Spurs, and it sounds as though that deal is progressing in the right direction.

However, as we should all know by now, transfers at Tottenham are never as simple as they probably should be, and, as ever, there’s a small chance of a hijack on this deal.

Speaking on The Spurs Chat Podcast, George Sessions has been discussing the idea of this deal being hijacked and he’s actually named Liverpool as one of the only teams that could scupper this deal, claiming that the likes of Newcastle and Chelsea perhaps couldn’t afford the deal.

Liverpool one of the only Nusa threats

Sessions spoke about the attacker and his potential move.

“They want £30m, but they’re not going to get that from anyone else unless like a Liverpool suddenly come into the equation, Newcastle were mentioned today but I don’t think they have the money for an 18-year-old and Chelsea had a bid rejected in the summer, but I don’t think he’d be their priority, nor do I think they’d have £30m for an 18-year-old,” Sessions said.

Been here before

The ironic thing is that this wouldn’t be the first time in recent years that Liverpool have hijacked a deal for an exciting young Tottenham-bound attacker late in January.

Indeed, just two years ago we saw this exact situation play out with Luis Diaz.

Luckily, it doesn’t sound as though Nusa to Liverpool is in the pipeline or at all advanced, and while Liverpool may be one of the only teams capable of hijacking this deal, there isn’t much to suggest that that this is their intention.

Tottenham, with any luck, should have a fairly free run at Nusa.
