The Portuguese tactician is apparently keen to take the impending vacancy at Anfield, with some claiming that Liverpool have already offered him a contract running until 2027.
Earlier this week, the 39-year-old moved to quash talk of any interview taking place with Liverpool, and while Fabrizio Romano confirmed that, the reliable Italian journalist did still concede that the man from Lisbon is the favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp.
Now, there is talk that one staff member at Sporting CP could follow Ruben Amorim to Liverpool…
Hugo Viana could follow Ruben Amorim to Liverpool
Well – according to Pedro Sepulveda – Hugo Viana could leave Lisbon for Liverpool as well this summer, despite interest from Newcastle.
The 41-year-old is currently working as Director of Football at Sporting CP, where he notably played a key role in Manchester United’s £47m move for Bruno Fernandes in January 2020.
Of course, you may be arguing that Liverpool have already hired a new Director of Football in Richard Hughes, who left his role at Bournemouth to team up with Michael Edwards on Merseyside.
However, Sepulveda has claimed that Viana could still fit in at Anfield.
The Portuguese journalist wrote: “Exclusive. Hugo Viana could also leave Sporting CP at the end of the season if Ruben Amorim doesn’t stay… and Liverpool will be aware of that. Richard Hughes will be the new sporting director but Viana could fit Amorim’s staff. Newcastle has also his name on the table.”

In our view, Liverpool should leave Viana to Newcastle.
Hiring the man from Barcelos could overcomplicate the post Klopp era – in our view – with Edwards and Hughes already in place to mastermind the next chapter.
Appointing Viana could potentially blur Liverpool from having a clear, aligned vision – ever heard of the term too many cooks spoil the broth?
After all, Edwards proved himself as one of the smartest minds in football during his first stint at Anfield, while Hughes has also impressed as Bournemouth, helping turn the Cherries into a solid Premier League outfit with some wise recruitment.
Therefore, we believe Liverpool should not hire Viana as well this summer – it could easily backfire.
