Joe Gomez was less than pleased with one of his Liverpool teammates despite beating Brighton and Hove Albion today.

Jurgen Klopp went into the game knowing that it was imperative to win three points ahead of watching Manchester City hosting Arsenal.

Of course, Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton & Hove Albion side were never going to be easy competition, and the Italian certainly did his chances of being considered for the Liverpool job no harm.

Despite losing, Brighton were brave on the ball and De Zerbi had the likes of Simon Adingra playing with so much confidence.

It would certainly be easy to imagine this Liverpool team playing to De Zerbi’s rhythm in the future, even if they’ve still got unfinished business under Klopp.

That being said, Joe Gomez was once again installed at left back today in the absence of Andy Robertson.

Gomez was fairly resolute on the left, with most of Brighton’s attacks going down the other side.

But when Liverpool were 2-1 up, Gomez certainly wasn’t happy with the effort levels of one of his teammates.

Joe Gomez was furious with Liverpool teammate Cody Gakpo late on against Brighton today

Spotted by Jamie Carragher during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, Joe Gomez could be seen having a real go at Cody Gakpo in the 93rd minute.

Gomez appeared to be unhappy with Gakpo’s efforts to track his man when Brighton were on the attack against Liverpool late on.

Carragher stated: “Virgil van Dijk is incensed, Joe Gomez is having a go at Cody Gakpo, that just tells you the nervousness within the stadium.

“He scored a great goal on that right foot, again it’s a narrow angle, we saw one of them in the first half when it was on the left foot, he just eases him out, Virgil van Dijk.”

Of course, Gakpo should be forgiven for not quite being up to the speed of the game, he had only just entered the pitch after all.

But similarly, Liverpool fans will be pleased to see Gomez taking responsibility and reminding his £35m teammate of the levels expected.

That being said, one Liverpool player certainly knew what was needed today and absolutely amazed Jamie Carragher with his performance.
