Gary Neville has named Jurgen Klopp as the best manager around right now, and admitted that the Liverpool boss would be his pick if he could name a new Manchester United manager tomorrow.

Neville was speaking on The Daily Ketchup Podcast as he lauded the German for the work he has done when you compare the budget he has had with the one Pep Guardiola has had at Manchester City.

Gary Neville lauds Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has had an unbelievable time at Liverpool. There was huge excitement when he was appointed by the Reds back in 2015. And he has certainly lived up to the hype.

Liverpool have won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup during his time in charge. And after a couple of underwhelming years, the Reds now appear to be back amongst the title contenders again.

Liverpool have actually won all nine of their home games in all competitions at the start of this campaign. Remarkably, they have also won all of those fixtures by two or more goals.

Of course, Liverpool’s main rival during Klopp’s tenure has been Manchester City and Pep Guardiola. And some will suggest that Guardiola has the edge over Klopp.

However, Gary Neville sees it differently as he was asked to pick out the best manager in the world right now.

“I’d say Jurgen Klopp,” he told The Daily Ketchup Podcast.

“Jurgen Klopp works with a budget which is far less than Pep Guardiola. Pep Guardiola’s a genius, and he’ll be the one who’s remembered forever more. But Jurgen Klopp, for me, is an amazing manager.

“If you said to me which manager could I bring to Manchester United tomorrow, it would be Jurgen Klopp.”

Manchester United need to find their own Klopp somehow

Obviously, there is virtually no chance of Klopp becoming Manchester United manager. But Klopp’s time at Liverpool can act as the blueprint for what United appear to need.

Liverpool had gone 30 years without winning the title before their triumph in 2020. Manchester United are still some way off matching that drought. However, Erik ten Hag’s side do appear to be miles away from being genuine title contenders.

They are actually only seven points off Manchester City right now. However, the style of play hardly suggests that they are really on the rise.

It has become hard to argue ten Hag is going to be the man to lead Manchester United back to glory. By lauding Klopp, Neville clearly does not appear to be entirely convinced about the Dutchman.
