Gary Neville has suggested Liverpool may not be too disappointed if they lose to Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
The Premier League pace-setters will turn their attention away from the title race for the weekend, with the heavyweights all about to enter the FA Cup.
And of course, the glamour tie of the round sees Liverpool travel to the Emirates to face Mikel Arteta‘s men in a game which will also whet the appetite for the second-half of the Premier League campaign.
Gary Neville believes Liverpool won’t mind losing to Arsenal in FA Cup
With their win over Newcastle United on Monday night, Jurgen Klopp‘s side are now three points clear at the summit. Meanwhile, it has been a miserable time for Arsenal.

So it looks to be particularly important that Arsenal get back to winning ways when they face Liverpool.
And speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, the Sky Sports pundit admitted that he is not entirely sure if the Reds will mind being knocked out of the competition in the coming days.
“I was thinking as you mentioned the FA Cup and you said that Liverpool go to Arsenal, would [Liverpool] be that disappointed if they went out? They’re in the Carabao Cup semi-final. They’re obviously in with a real chance here of, forget top four, winning a title and going for a title. Do they just, ‘oh, we tried our best, it was a difficult tie away at Arsenal, leave Arsenal in’?
“When you’re at home, it’s different. If you’re away from home, then you can almost sneak out of the FA Cup a little bit. It sounds terrible because it’s a great competition. But I don’t think Liverpool need it, is what I’m saying,” he said.
Reds fans may reluctantly agree with pundit
Certainly, the priority for most supporters of any club now in the title picture will surely be to win the Premier League. So it probably will not take too long for either side to move on if they lose this weekend.
But they will want to build some momentum. Arsenal, in particular, have a massive point to prove after seemingly being worked out by both West Ham and Fulham. Admittedly, the Gunners could have definitely beaten the Hammers on another day.
Liverpool are now without Mohamed Salah while he is away with Egypt. So they may not mind having fewer fixtures while he is unavailable to them.
And thus, you can imagine plenty of Liverpool fans will agree with Neville’s view that a swift cup exit could have an upside.
