‘It’s upsetting’: Harvey Elliott says he’s gutted ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool man doesn’t play every week

Harvey Elliott has claimed it’s ‘upsetting’ that Caoimhin Kelleher doesn’t get to play every week for Liverpool.

The Liverpool goalkeeper put in yet another exceptional cup final display against Chelsea on Sunday.

Caoimhin Kelleher produced some crucial saves on the day which ultimately kept Liverpool in the game before Virgil van Dijk’s extra-time winner.

The 25-year-old has proven to be an excellent deputy to Alisson Becker over the years and has always impressed in cup competitions.

Now, Harvey Elliott has lauded Kelleher after yesterday’s League Cup victory and admitted he’s gutted the goalkeeper doesn’t get more minutes at Liverpool.

Elliott on ‘unbelievable’ Kelleher

Speaking to Hayters TV after yesterday’s cup final, Elliott was asked about Kelleher’s display.

“Caoimhin is unbelievable,” Elliott said. “It’s upsetting that we can’t see him play each and every game. But at the same time, we have the world’s best keeper in Alisson, so it’s a tough fight.

“But whenever he plays, he’s absolutely amazing and he saved our —– today like he has done previously.

“We’re so delighted for him, he’s a great kid as well as a great goalkeeper.”

There is no shame in being kept out of a side by a goalkeeper of Alisson’s quality, who is widely recognised as the world’s best.

Kelleher has stepped up in the Premier League in recent weeks too, with Alisson currently sidelined.

The Irish shot-stopper looks set to continue between the sticks in the Brazilian’s absence.

It feels unlikely that Kelleher will replace Alisson anytime soon but for the time being, Liverpool have one of the best back-up goalkeepers in the game.

Whether or not Kelleher will eventually move for regular first-team football remains to be seen. But it would appear that he is content at Anfield for the time being as he continues to learn from one of the world’s best in Alisson.
