‘It’s theirs to lose’: Chris Sutton now names his new favourites to win the Premier League title

7 months ago 91

Chis Sutton has named his favourites to win the Premier League as Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City battle it out for the title.

The weekend’s action saw a shift at the top of the table as Mikel Arteta’s side moved above Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Arsenal now lead the way in the Premier League on goal difference following a convincing 3-0 win at Brighton.

The Gunners responded to Manchester City’s 4-2 victory at Crystal Palace in the early kick-off in some style and Liverpool were made to rue their missed chances in a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Despite results swinging Arsenal’s way over the weekend, Gabriel Agbonlahor has warned their supporters not to get too carried away and believes City will regain their crown.

But the momentum is undoubtedly with Arteta’s side at the moment as they have been near-flawless in the league since the turn of the year.

Indeed, Arsenal have only dropped points in the goalless draw at City and have picked up 10 wins from their last 11 league games.

Micah Richards also thinks the north Londoners have an advantage over City and Liverpool due to their superior goal difference. Now, Chris Sutton has claimed that the title is Arsenal’s to lose.

Sutton predicts Premier League title winners

Speaking on The Monday Night Club, Sutton claimed that Arsenal have favourable fixtures over City and Liverpool.

“I had a good look last night at the remaining fixtures, I think it’s Arsenal’s to lose, I really do,” Sutton said. “You look at the remaining fixtures and other than Tottenham away, and yet Arsenal could go to Tottenham, they’ve got great balance and you know what they’re going to do.

“I think Arsenal’s fixtures are pretty generous. They’ve got four at home and three away. Liverpool have got three at home, and so have Manchester City. They’ve got trickier fixtures.

“But it’s Arsenal’s backline where I think they have the edge. You spoke about the Raya situation earlier in the season and I at the start of the season wasn’t quite sure about that.

“I don’t know where Rory was on that as well but you can’t argue with that whole thought process from Arteta really because he’s playing well.”

He added: “At this moment in time because of Arsenal’s goal difference that’s so enormous for them. So I make them favourites.”

Arsenal have tougher fixtures than City and Liverpool

We’d have to disagree with Sutton’s comments on Arsenal’s ‘generous’ fixtures during the run-in.

While the Gunners do have more home games, their away games look difficult on paper.

Arsenal will face Tottenham away, as well as Wolves and Manchester United on the road.

As for City, they also face a trip to Spurs, as well as a difficult test at Brighton before the season ends.

Liverpool have a Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park with Everton fighting to stay in the Premier League.
