Thiago Alcantara has been a really strange case since joining Liverpool.
On his day, the Spaniard looks like genuinely the best player in the Premier League, but, sadly, he’s been rather inconsistent since arriving at Anfield and injuries have plagued him ever since he signed for the Reds.
Speaking to Squawka, Glen Johnson has been discussing Thiago’s future at Anfield, and he reckons the Spaniard could soon be on his way out of Merseyside, claiming that he’s too slow for the Premier League, and that the Reds’ glut of midfield signings over the summer don’t bode well for the £20m man.

Johnson gave his verdict on the Liverpool midfielder.
“I love Thiago as a player, he’s technically world class, but he’s struggled with injuries and I think the Premier League caught him by surprise a bit. He did have some fantastic games, but maybe the pace of the game was just a little bit too quick. I’m sure he’ll go on to have a good career elsewhere but with Liverpool signing all these players in midfield that can stay fit then it’s not looking good for his Liverpool career,” Johnson said.
Shame
It will be a real shame if Thiago is to leave Liverpool this summer, because it still feels like he has more to offer.
If he can stay fit and find some rhythm, he’s still world-class, but, of course, keeping a player like this fit, fresh and available is not easy, and as Johnson says, it’s starting to look like his legs have gone.
It’s an old saying, but it’s still true – the best ability in football is availability, and Thiago sadly hasn’t ticked that box in recent times.
Johnson is right, Liverpool’s recent signings in midfield don’t bode well for Thiago, and we may well be coming towards what is the end of the Spaniard’s career at Anfield.
