Pundit Tim Sherwood has heaped praise on the ‘immense’ Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk following Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
Liverpool needed a hero on Sunday.
Already down a number of injured players for the clash with Chelsea, Liverpool then lost Ryan Gravenberch in the first half.
Liverpool had to call upon a host of young players to try and get them over the line, and those kids contributed to a dramatic win.
It was an experienced head who won it as Virgil van Dijk powered a header into the net with just moments of extra time left to play.
Tim Sherwood hails Virgil van Dijk
Van Dijk has come in for huge praise after a colossal performance, stepping up when Liverpool needed him most.
Pundit Tim Sherwood has joined in whilst speaking on The Weekend Wrap for Premier League Productions.
Sherwood suggested that Van Dijk is simply ‘immense’ and gives Liverpool a chance to win no matter the situation.
Sherwood added that Van Dijk has everything – ability, looks, money – and even takes criticism and comes back stronger.

“He is just immense, that guy,” said Sherwood. “When you’ve got Virgil van Dijk in your side, you’ve always got a chance because he keeps them out and he’s always going to be a threat going forward.”
“It’s not fair! Is there anything he ain’t got? He’s quick, he’s pretty, he’s rich – I’m not jealous at all! He’s taking criticism as well! He takes it on board, he is immense,” he added.
Van Dijk has had his fair share of ups and downs since coming back from a major knee injury.
The Dutchman has maybe lost a tiny bit of pace but Sunday’s performance once again showed how colossal he can be in Liverpool’s back line.
Van Dijk still has plenty left in the tank and he will be looking for more silverware in the coming months as the Jurgen Klopp era comes to an end.
