Virgil van Dijk has now clarified the comments he made about his Liverpool future following the news that Jurgen Klopp will leave Anfield at the end of the season.
Liverpool fans are probably still coming to terms with the fact that Jurgen Klopp is planning to leave his post in the summer. Of course, Klopp has secured his spot alongside the greatest managers the club has had.
Virgil van Dijk alarmed Liverpool supporters by seemingly hinting that his future is also up in the air with Klopp now looking set to move on from Merseyside.

Van Dijk came in for some criticism for making those comments. Some must have been terrified about the prospect of losing their manager and captain in the same summer.

“No, no, no, no, no, no. It’s been taken out of context,” he said.
“To be 100 percent clear, I’m fully committed to the club. I love the club, I love the fans. It is fully taken out of context.
“It’s not about me. It’s not about I, it’s about us. And nothing has changed. Five days ago, we weren’t even speaking about my contract so it’s silly. But my full focus is making sure this year could be a very special year. And obviously, it was a big announcement the last couple of days. It’s been a shock to each one of us connected to the club. And I feel exactly what the fans have been feeling at that exact moment.
“But we mean business here. We want to crack on, we want to achieve things that we dreamt of at the start of the season. So let’s give it our all.”
Next Reds boss will want to keep current core together
The next manager is surely going to want the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk and Mohamed Salah to play a key role in their plans next season.
Of course, Klopp’s departure is going to leave a massive void. And his replacement does not need that hole to get any bigger with van Dijk and others looking to leave.
It also needs to be noted that Klopp could be handing over the Premier League champions. So having those key players is only going to help his successor hit the ground running.
It seems that van Dijk is not looking to make any promises. But he is very much open to helping launch the post-Klopp era at Anfield.
