Liverpool forward Harvey Elliott has described Reds teammate Virgil van Dijk as “the best centre-back in the world”.
The Liverpool talent lauded the Reds captain while speaking to Premier League Uncut host Ben Black in the latest episode of the YouTube show.
Elliott‘s knowledge of his Liverpool teammates and EA FC 24 was put to the test as he had to guess which of his colleagues had certain traits.
When it came to power headers, Van Dijk and Diogo Jota were the top two. Elliott put his head in his hands as he had guessed Luis Diaz instead of Jota.
Then, on the subject of Van Dijk’s qualities, Elliott said: “Yeah, he’s unbelievable. The best centre-back in the world. It’s a no-brainer to be honest.”

When Liverpool signed Van Dijk back in the 2017-18 January window, some baulked at the £75million fee that swapped hands between the Reds and Southampton.
However, the Dutchman has been so superb for his club and his country over the years that his transfer fee barely warrants a mention any more.
Van Dijk turned a previously weak Liverpool defence into a fortress-like unit. His efforts have helped the Reds win the likes of the Premier League, Champions League and Club World Cup.
Although the £220,000-a-week star (Spotrac) has endured a few difficult spells due to issues like injury and loss of form, he’s now back to his best and silencing his doubters.
Van Dijk helped set Liverpool on their way to a resounding 4-1 victory against Luton on Wednesday night, heading home the equaliser in the 56th minute.
Liverpool are in a great place at present. They’re top of the Premier League table, in the Carabao Cup final, in the 5th round of the FA Cup and in the knockout stages of the Europa League.
In Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Liverpool, Van Dijk and his teammates will want nothing more than to give the iconic manager as many opportunities to lift silverware as possible in the coming months.
