Rio Ferdinand has given his verdict on Liverpool and England international right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The former Manchester United defender has noted what infuriates him about Alexander-Arnold.
So, what has Rio Ferdinand said about Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold? Let’s take a look.
What’s the story?
Well, Rio Ferdinand has been speaking about Liverpool and England international right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold on his YouTube channel.
While the former Manchester United defender has praised him for his attributes and what he does in attack, he does not think that Alexander-Arnold takes defending seriously.
The TNT Sports pundit believes that the 25-year-old needs to be more active when he defends against full-back.
Ferdinand made the comments while looking back at Alexander-Arnold’s performance for Liverpool against Manchester City this past weekend.
The 25-year-old scored for the Reds, but defensively, he was not at his very best.

“His passing, his range over varying distances, he can give it to you how you want it, curl it, the lot, right. Just have that same intensity defensively.
“This is the thing that makes me mad. I have seen him do it. I go back to the game when Sane at City was on fire. Come to Anfield, Trent locks him down one-v-one.”
Ferdinand added: “It just looks like there’s a passiveness to when he has to defend. There is no intensity. Even when he goes into engage a winger, I don’t see that soft bending the knees ready to accelerate and ready to explode, ready for a one-v-one.
“He goes in like he has forgotten about the fundamentals of defending in one-v-one situations.”
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold needs to improve defensively
In my view, Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the best right-backs in the world and is a key player for Liverpool.
However, the 25-year-old does need to do better defensively. He is better at going on the attack than stopping attacks.
True, part of it could be because of the way Liverpool play their football and how manager Jurgen Klopp wants him to play.
But, at the same time, Alexander-Arnold needs to focus more on stopping attacks. He has to get the balance right.
Alexander-Arnold has made 209 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The Liverpool right-back has scored 13 goals, given 55 assists, and kept 65 clean sheets in those games.
