Xabi Alonso has been heavily linked with the Liverpool job this summer, and one of his current players at Bayer Leverkusen could follow him to Anfield if he accepts the role.
Jurgen Klopp announced last month that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. A number of names have been linked with the Liverpool hot seat since, but none more than Alonso, who is doing an amazing job at Leverkusen.

Xabi Alonso isn’t the only one linked with Liverpool, his trusted midfield star Florian Wirtz has been too.
The 20-year-old German is one of the best players in the Bundesliga. He is having an amazing season at Bayer Leverkusen and is among the biggest reasons why they are on top of the table.
Wirtz has scored eight goals and provided 16 assists in all competitions so far. That is a terrific return for someone so young, and he is a wanted man.
Journalist Christian Falk has claimed today that Wirtz is willing to stay at Bayer Leverkusen if Alonso does. However, if the Spaniard moves to Liverpool, the midfielder could follow him there.
He wrote in his Fact Files: “A farewell to Alonso could also mean a serious loss in the Leverkusen squad. Florian Wirtz (20) is Alonso’s key player. He has complete freedom under his coach.
“For Wirtz it is clear: If Alonso stays, he will stay beyond 2024. But if Alonso goes to Liverpool in the summer, Wirtz could follow him. Liverpool already have scouts in the stands in Leverkusen to analyse Wirtz. The Reds have Wirtz on their shopping list.
“However, with a transfer fee of €130 million (£111m), the player would be very expensive. There are enough interested parties with Manchester City, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. The player is currently too expensive for FC Bayern.”

Florian Wirtz is still just 20 years old, but he’s already among the best players in Germany.
24 direct goal contributions in 30 appearances is an outrageous return for any attacking midfielder, let alone someone so young.
Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface described Wirtz as a ‘magician’ who is ‘fast, strong, skilful’ and can also defend, which is not very common among number 10s.
Getting Xabi Alonso alone would be massive for Liverpool this summer, but if they can get Wirtz as well along with the Spaniard, it would be an incredible statement ahead of the start of their new era.
