There’s still some women’s football to enjoy this summer!
While pre-season training is underway for the Liverpool Women, some players had the honor of being chosen for their squads to travel to Paris for the 2024 Olympics.
Teagan Micah and Fuka Nagano were both chosen by Australia and Japan respectively to support their national teams in the worldwide competition that began this week.
Nagano was named to the starting XI for their opening match against Spain in Broup C and featured for the whole 90 minutes. Spain would come from behind to secure the victory with a 2-1 scoreline.
Micah was named as an unused substitute for Australia, who faced Germany in Group B in Marseille. The Matildas would also fall to defeat, with the Germans shutting them out completely 3-0.
It wouldn’t be all doom and gloom, though, as Japan faced Brazil on Sunday. With a deadlocked 1-1 score going into 8 minutes of stoppage time, Momoka Tanikawa fired a rocket from outside the box to secure the win. Nagano also started in midfield for all 98 minutes.
Australia will play Zambia later on Sunday in Nice.
