‘Infectious enthusiasm’: Phil Thompson says £8m Liverpool player is a leader

Phil Thompson has given his verdict on Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson.

The former Liverpool star has noted how Robertson makes the Liverpool dressing room better.

So, what has Phil Thompson said about Liverpool and Scotland international left-back Andy Robertson? Let’s take a look.

Praise for Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson

Well, Phil Thompson has been raving about Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson. The former Sky Sports pundit was impressed by the display produced by the £8 million (Goal) star in the FA Cup tie this past weekend.

The former Liverpool star believes that Robertson is a leader in the team. TalkSPORT pundit and ex-Scotland striker Ally McCoist is also a fan of his 29-year-old compatriot.

Liverpool beat Norwich City 5-2 at Anfield in the fourth round of the FA Cup this past weekend. Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch scored the goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Robertson came off the bench during the second half. It was the left-back’s first appearance since suffering a shoulder injury last October.

McCoist said about Robertson on talkSPORT (9:12 am, January 29, 2024): “For me, one of the massive points, one of the massive pluses and I unashamedly say it, the return of Robbo who came on after 55 minutes for Joe Gomez.”

Thompson asked: “What nationality is he again Ally?”

McCoist replied: “Exactly, I’m thinking Euros!”

Thompson noted: “Listen, it’s great to have Robbo back because he’s one of the leaders with his infectious enthusiasm for everything Liverpool.

“You look at the five subs who came on, they were all stars. So, it tells you that everybody’s getting game time.”

My View: Andy Robertson would make Liverpool better

In my opinion, Andy Robertson would make Liverpool a better team for the rest of the season.

While Liverpool have been very good without the left-back, with the former Hull City star in the team now, the Reds will get even better.

Robertson is 29 now and is at the top of his game at the moment. He is very good going on the attack and is also adept defensively.

The Scottish star has made 260 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. Robertson has scored nine goals, given 57 assists, and has kept 77 clean sheets in those games.
