Liverpool have been heavily linked with Goncalo Inacio in recent months, while Manchester United have also been mentioned as suitors.
Now, speculation involving the Reds, the Red Devils and the Sporting Lisbon ace is intensifying ahead of the January transfer window.
Journalist Graeme Bailey has spoken about Liverpool, Man United and their defensive targets on the latest episode of the Talking Transfers podcast.
He says both Jurgen Klopp’s side and Erik ten Hag’s club have been looking at Inacio and fellow Portuguese defender Antonio Silva.
However, Bailey claims that, while Man United favour the right-footed Silva, Liverpool are “indeed” after a left-sided defender like Inacio.
“Liverpool and Man United both looking at Goncalo Inacio and Antonio Silva,” said Bailey.

“Liverpool do indeed want a left-sided defender so it makes sense. Both outstanding players.”
Bailey suggested that Liverpool and Man United had scouts in attendance at Sunday’s derby between Benfica and Sporting.
Inacio sadly had a day to forget, getting sent off in the 51st minute. Benfica went on to score twice in injury time to win 2-1 against their rivals.
Liverpool will fancy their chances of signing Inacio ahead of Man United – TBR View
Liverpool could do with bolstering their defensive ranks and Inacio certainly fits the bill for the Anfield side.
Inacio has been deemed ‘one of the hottest talents in Europe’, as per a Daily Mail scouting report.
He has already made 139 competitive appearances for Sporting. He has also won four Portugal caps and has scored twice for them.
Fans and peers rate Inacio highly. For instance, Man United’s Bruno Fernandes deemed him a “matador” on Instagram after he scored for Portugal on international duty.
Inacio would no doubt be an exciting acquisition for Liverpool. And by the looks of it, they’re likelier than Man United to get their hands on the £52million-clause player.
