Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on Joe Gomez after the defender played in a completely new role for Liverpool last night.
Liverpool picked up a 3-0 win over Southampton at Anfield on Wednesday evening and booked their spot in the quarter-final of the FA Cup.
After Sunday’s League Cup victory, Jurgen Klopp made several changes to the side which ultimately beat Chelsea at Wembley.
The likes of Bobby Clark, James McConnell, Lewis Koumas and Konstantinos Tsimikas all came into the side.
It led to Joe Gomez playing in a deeper-lying midfield role, behind youngsters Clark and McConnell.
And after an impressive display in the middle of the park, Klopp has claimed that Gomez’s versatility has already saved Liverpool ‘20 times’ this season.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Klopp lauded Gomez after his display against the Saints on Wednesday evening.
“Joe Gomez had to play 6 today,” the Liverpool boss said. “Never played that in his life as far as I know. He had an incredible game!
“He saved our backside already this year 15, 20 times – playing left-back, I didn’t see a lot of players playing right-back in a specific way and now playing 6.
“It’s absolutely outstanding. With two kids in front of him and they had not the greatest timing of all time (he laughed) so there was a lot of space to cover. It was absolutely great.”

But Gomez deservedly earned plaudits for putting in a brilliant shift in midfield.
The 26-year-old has often filled in at full-back for the Reds this season, while even doing a job at centre-back when required.
Having a player like Gomez must be a dream for Klopp as he never kicks up a fuss and is always ready to step in and perform.
Whether or not Gomez could play as the No6 in the Premier League remains to be seen but with injuries to several players in midfield, it may be something Klopp explores further.
