147 Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney believes Arsenal will not win the Premier League and has backed Manchester City or Liverpool to lift the title in May.
Mikel Arteta’s side picked up a huge win over Liverpool on Sunday, putting them just two points behind Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Arsenal are now level on points with Pep Guardiola’s men but Manchester City do have a game in hand over both the Gunners and Liverpool.
At this moment in time, it looks to be a three-horse race, with Tottenham and Aston Villa making up the top five.
And despite a statement win over Liverpool, Fulham’s Tom Cairney believes Arsenal will fall short of landing the title once again this season.
Cairney thinks Arsenal won’t win the Premier League
Speaking on The Players Channel, Cairney praised Arsenal for putting in an excellent performance against Liverpool.
But the Fulham star believes it will be either Klopp or Guardiola lifting the title come May.
“I think performance-wise they were better this season than last season, to be honest,” Cairney said. “I think that game at the weekend was huge for Arsenal, I think that’s why the celebrations were so big.
“In my opinion, if they had lost that game I don’t think they would have had much chance of catching Liverpool, I can’t see them losing three or four more games until the end of the season with the squad they have got, it’s frightening. So I think you could tell how big it was for Arsenal.
“Arsenal will be up there but I think it’s Liverpool or Man City’s.”
Of course, Arsenal fell short last season after a disappointing end to the campaign. Arteta’s men led the way for the majority of the season but just didn’t have the required know-how to get over the line.
The Gunners seem a more well-rounded side this season and boast the best defensive record in the league.
But we’d have to agree with Cairney as it feels almost inevitable that City will put a brilliant run together at the business end of the season.
Guardiola’s side have won their last nine in all competitions and seem to be finding their best form at just the right time.
