Chris Sutton has suggested that he might have been wrong about Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Liverpool defender has once again been vital for the Reds this season and they are well in the mix when it comes to winning the Premier League.

For Van Dijk, finding his top form has been satisfying after a couple of season where it looked like he might have just dropped off a touch.

Indeed, people have questioned the Dutchman and one of those to ask questions was Sutton.

However, when pressed on if Van Dijk might follow Jurgen Klopp out of Liverpool in the summer,

Chris Sutton says Virgil van Dijk could sign for anyone

Speaking alongside Ian Ladyman on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, Sutton suggested Van Dijk could sign for any club in the world before Ladyman reminded him he’d questioned the defender earlier in the season.

But Sutton, chirping back at Ladyman, suggested he might have been proven wrong.

“I think this season his form has got better and better and he looks like he is getting back to his imperious best,” Sutton said.

“Where is he going to go? He could go to any of the very top clubs in the world!!”

Van Dijk still the top dog

He has been the main man in Europe for years now and there’s nothing to suggest that Virgil van Dijk still isn’t the top defensive player around.

He’s showing yet again this season that he has everything a top central defender should have and it’s little wonder Liverpool are flying again.

Van Dijk, as Sutton says, is good enough for any team in the world and despite being 32, the £75m man is still the business.

If Van Dijk does somehow follow Klopp and leave, it would be a crushing blow for the Reds.
