Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel are both set to leave their respective clubs at the end of the season. Liverpool and Bayern have Alonso at the top of their list, and the Spaniard would be an amazing option for either side.
What Xabi Alonso’s agent did ‘immediately’ after Liverpool called him
Xabi Alonso has done a fantastic job at Bayer Leverkusen this season, and it’s no surprise that Liverpool and Bayern Munich are keen to make him their next manager.
The 42-year-old has led Die Werkself to the top of the Bundesliga table. They are 10 points clear of Bayern already, and with just 10 games left to be played, they are the favourites to win the title.
Alonso is expected to leave Leverkusen at the end of the season. He will be a wanted man, and Christian Falk has now claimed that Liverpool and Bayern Munich have both contacted the Spaniard’s agent, Inaki Ibanez.
When Liverpool called him and expressed their interest, Ibanez quickly conveyed the message to the bosses at Bayer Leverkusen. However, he did no such thing when Bayern contacted him.
Falk claimed in his Fact Files: “The successors to Tuchel are now being discussed at FC Bayern. Xabi Alonso is still Munich’s dream coach. But – despite many reports – there were still no negotiations between Bayern and Alonso.
“What speaks for it: When Liverpool contacted Inaki Ibanez, Alonso’s agent, the agent immediately communicated the Reds’ interest to those in charge at Leverkusen. That didn’t happen in the case of Bayern.
“FC Bayern is still waiting for a signal from Alonso as to whether he can imagine a move to Munich. As soon as that happens, they would start negotiations.”
Replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool won’t be easy
Jurgen Klopp is one of the best managers in the world, there’s no debate there.
The German took the Liverpool job when the Reds were struggling, and he has transformed them into one of the best clubs in the world.
Klopp is just incredible, and whoever replaces him will have massive boots to fill. It won’t be easy at all.
Xabi Alonso’s stock is higher than ever now for the work he has done at Bayer Leverkusen. He is one of the most exciting young managers around, and we have a feeling he’ll do well at Anfield.
It will be interesting to see what will happen in the next few months. We expect Liverpool to do everything they can to get Alonso ahead of Bayern.
