140 Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on Ibrahima Konate’s fitness in wake of his injury scare on Thursday night.
The Reds defender pulled up early on in the first half of the 5-1 win over Sparta Prague in their Europa League last-16 first leg.
Konate went down requiring treatment before having to be replaced by Virgil van Dijk in the 51st minute of the match.
Speaking to the Liverpool media team after the game, Klopp shared what the defender said to him as he came off.
The Reds boss seemed to play down Konate’s injury, but he couldn’t give a definitive prognosis and said the player will need further assessment.
“We don’t know [yet],” Klopp said about Konate’s injury.
“Ibou said to me when he passed me in that moment, ‘I thought if I do another sprint then it could be bad.’ So, he said he should be fine, but we don’t know.”

Klopp was able to give a more positive update on Gomez, who was substituted at the interval during the match.
“Joey is fine,” said the Reds boss. “We took him off, he played a lot of games so that was more rotation, precaution. Now let’s see what is with Ibou.”
Liverpool have had their fair share of injury issues over the past few months and a multitude of players remain on the sidelines.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Stefan Bajcetic and Ben Doak are all out at present.
Despite so many injuries, Liverpool have soldiered on admirably and remain in pole position for the Premier League title.
The Reds have already won the Carabao Cup, are in the FA Cup quarter-finals, and are in the driving seat to reach the Europa League quarters.
