Ibou Konate and Luis Diaz seriously impressed by £220k-a-week Liverpool player v Brentford today

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk made his 250th appearance for the Reds today and sealed it with a fine win over Brentford.

The giant Dutchman has been an immense signing for Liverpool ever since arriving at the club from Southampton and fully justifies his apparent £220k-a-week wages at Anfield.

Today, in his landmark appearance, Van Dijk was as imperious as ever in the back four and he was just as big a reason for them winning with ease as the attacking players were.

Van Dijk is a hugely popular member of the Liverpool squad and after he sung the praises of Ibou Konate after today’s win, his Liverpool teammates were on social media doing the same in his direction.

After taking to Instagram to post about the win and his 250th game, a number of Liverpool players were quickly down in the comments to show their love for the skipper, including the likes of Luis Diaz and Konate himself.

Virgil van Dijk is so impressive for Liverpool

It can’t be a coincidence that we are seeing Van Dijk back to his best and Liverpool back competing right at the very summit of the table.

The Dutchman has been one of the best signings the club has ever made and even looking back at the monster £75m price they paid, Liverpool will feel they’ve had value for money.

If the Reds do end up winning trophies this season then there is no doubt that Van Dijk’s resurgence will have played a massive part in their success.

The longer Van Dijk stays around for Liverpool, the better. The younger defenders can only benefit from having him about about right now, he’s back to being one of the best in the world.
