‘I would’ve made them favourites’: Pundit says Liverpool would be title favourites if they signed 22-year-old

Liverpool are in a great position to go on and win the Premier League this season.

A win against Arsenal on Saturday would leave the Reds top of the league on Christmas Day, but, we’re still some way away from being able to call the Merseyside club title favourites.

Indeed, while the Reds are in good shape, Manchester City are probably still the most fancied team to win the league due to their pedigree and quality.

However, speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Don Hutchison has claimed that Liverpool would now be title favourites if they had signed Moises Caicedo in the summer.

Liverpool would’ve been favourites with Caicedo

The pundit shared his verdict on Liverpool and their failed pursuit of the 22-year-old.

“I like Mac Allister, but he’s not a specialised number six, that’s why they were in for Caicedo, if Liverpool had signed Caicedo in the summer, I would’ve made them favourites to win the league, I think that’s exactly what they need someone who will sit and protect,”

Really?

We can understand the point Hutchison is trying to make here – Liverpool don’t have an top-class number six on their books right now, but we’re not sure Caicedo is the player Liverpool should be pining over.

Yes, he was a top target and they missed out on him narrowly in the summer, but let’s be real, he’s not pulled up any trees at Chelsea has he?

The Blues sit in mid-table for a reason, Caicedo hasn’t proven to be a difference maker in the way Chelsea hoped he would, and that £115m fee is looking more and more ridiculous with each passing week.

Caicedo was fantastic at Brighton, but his standards have slipped this season, and we can’t confidently say that he would’ve been a huge difference maker had he signed for Liverpool.
