Liverpool had an excellent summer transfer window.
Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch are all proving to be utterly brilliant signings for the Reds.
However, there is still one missing piece of the puzzle.
Indeed, the Merseyside club still don’t have that world-class number six.
Fabinho left in the summer, and he’s not really been replaced, and the Reds may want to address that in January.
Of course, Liverpool did try their best in the summer, agreeing a £111m fee for Moises Caicedo before he snubbed a move to Anfield and went to Chelsea instead.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jose Enrique has been discussing Liverpool’s need for a midfielder, and he says that he would’ve loved it if Caicedo was eventually the man the Reds ended up signing.

The pundit shared his verdict on the Reds’ midfield conundrum.
“Who would you like to be the number six? It’s difficult to know mate. It’s very tough. In the end I would’ve loved it to be Caicedo, but obviously that isn’t happening. We have to look at the market and players that could be available and who will cost what. There are so many great players out there, there’s no excuse for us not to find a proper number six at a good price,” Enrique said.
Really?
We can understand being hung up on Caicedo at the time. After all, he was brilliant for Brighton, but after his £115m move to Chelsea, this really looks like a bullet dodged for Liverpool.
Caicedo hasn’t come anywhere close to justifying that transfer fee for the Blues, and as Enrique himself says, there’s a lot of good players out there available for a good fee.
Liverpool do need a quality number six, but they also need to find value where possible.
