The Premier League is home to some of the very best defenders in world football.
The likes of Ruben Dias, William Saliba and, of course, Virgil van Dijk, are all absolute nightmares to play against.
However, according to Leeds United’s Georginio Rutter, another Liverpool defender is the toughest centre-back in the division.
Indeed, speaking on the JD Sports Football YouTube channel, Rutter was asked to name his toughest opponent of his career, and he says that Ibrahima Konate is the toughest centre-back he’s ever come up against.

Rutter spoke about his toughest opponent alongside his two Leeds teammates.
“Who is the toughest opponent you have faced in your career? The Leeds trio were asked.
“Kyle Walker,” Jaidon Anthony said.
“Lukaku,” Charlie Cresswell added.
“I would say Konate,” Georginio Rutter concluded.
Huge praise
This is big praise from a player who has faced some of the best defenders in the world.
Rutter has come up against the best of the best during his time in the Premier League, but Konate sticks out to him as the one centre-back that was impossible to beat.
To be fair, it’s not hard to understand why.
Konate is an incredible defender. He combines size, speed and intelligence to be one of the toughest centre-halves on the planet, and we certainly don’t envy any attacker that is tasked with trying to get past the Frenchman.
At the age of just 24, Konate has so much room to still grow and improve, and he could be a staple in this Liverpool backline for the next 10 years if he plays his cards right.
Konate is a truly brilliant centre-back, and there’s no shame in Rutter admitting that he’s really struggled to play against him in the past.
