149 Trent Alexander-Arnold has made a career out of proving people wrong.
When he first came through he had his doubters, then people said he wasn’t good enough at defending to win major trophies, and now, people are questioning whether or not he’s actually capable of playing in the midfield.
Many have doubted Alexander-Arnold’s ability to transition into a midfield role for Liverpool, but speaking on his YouTube channel, Jose Enrique has now admitted that he got it wrong about Alexander-Arnold, claiming that he does now believe that the England international’s future lies in the midfield.
Trent’s future is in midfield
Enrique shared his verdict on the 25-year-old.
“I was wrong because I actually believe that Trent should be a number eight for us guys. It’s crazy how good he’s doing there. I will be honest I didn’t think he would be capable of, in the midfield it is tough to turn, it is more difficult than from a full-back point of view, so to have all the vision from the back, it is difficult,” Enrique said.
Has the ability
It was fair to question Alexander-Arnold’s ability to play in midfield to begin with. After all, this experiment did fail with England a few years ago.
However, Alexander-Arnold has now proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he has what it takes to play this role going forwards, and we’re very excited by what the future holds.
Of course, he’s a world-class right-back in his own right, so it’s no great shame if he does stay in the backline, but the idea of Alexander-Arnold making that midfield position his own at Anfield is mouthwatering to say the least due to his remarkable passing range.
The playmaker has what it takes to be a true midfield superstar, and we find it hard to believe that there can be anyone questioning that nowadays.
