'I think': Jurgen Klopp claims one of his Liverpool stars would actually be better off at Manchester City this year

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has been speaking about Darwin Nunez ahead of this weekend’s clash with Manchester City.

The Uruguayan striker has had a troubled start to life as a Liverpool player. Despite getting on the scoresheet more than once, Nunez has had a red card already and endured some frustrating performances in front of goal as the team have also struggled.

However, Nunez did get his goal at Rangers in midweek and while Klopp was delighted for him, the Reds boss admitted that his new striker would probably have done better at Manchester City, as he questioned his team’s overall chance creation.

“I think Darwin Nunez would have scored more goals if he had been playing upfront for Man City this season… we have to improve our game to bring him in more in situations. I hope Nunez, in his current process, isn’t comparing himself to Haaland,” Klopp said in his press conference.

“I think he’s really doing good steps here. We could really see it in his face and everything, his goal was really important to him.”

Nunez will be hoping to continue on the goal trail this weekend as City come to town. Despite being at home, Liverpool are not favourites for the game and know anything but a win will see their already slim title hopes die off.

Klopp is bang on the money here in that Nunez shouldn’t be comparing himself to Erling Haaland. Nobody should, to be honest, as the City man is out on his own.

For Nunez, it’s just about scoring goals and contributing where he can while improving through the season.

Nunez has shown glimpses of his talent and his finish in midweek was a good one. More of the same will be just what Liverpool fans – and Klopp – want to see.
