'I think he will': Rio Ferdinand names club he believes Jude Bellingham will join from Borussia Dortmund

Rio Ferdinand has told his YouTube channel that he believes that Liverpool target Jude Bellingham will join Manchester City next summer before joining Real Madrid later in his career.

Bellingham has, unsurprisingly, been one of the stars of the World Cup so far. The 19-year-old got England’s campaign off and running with a brilliant header in their win over Iran in their opening game.

And he was the star of the show against Senegal on Sunday. Bellingham set up one goal for Jordan Henderson and he also played an important role in England’s second, driving up the pitch from just outside his own area.

It was an ‘unbelievably good‘ display from the teenager. But it will not have come as a shock to many, with Bellingham achieving so much in his career before he has even turned 20.

Certainly, the likelihood of Borussia Dortmund receiving a bid for Bellingham they simply cannot turn down is increasing with each game. 90min reported that Liverpool were scouting the youngster before the tournament. And the Reds will be desperate to build their new-look midfield around the Englishman.

However, Ferdinand believes that he is destined for a Premier League rival. He suggested that Pep Guardiola’s contract may set the stage for Bellingham to join Manchester City.

“I think he will [join Manchester City], yeah. He’ll say, ‘listen, I’ve got a couple of mates there, English boys. I can go to Madrid in five years,” he told his YouTube channel.

“There’s no rush. I just think he thinks: ‘you know what, I’m the superstar. I’m going to win the Premier League, because I’m an English born boy. And then I’ll go to Madrid and I’ll do the same there in a few years.”

As his stock continues to rise, you would imagine that that would probably play more into City’s hands.

Liverpool broke their club-record to sign Darwin Nunez in a deal which could cost £85 million. City meanwhile, have rarely shied away from the opportunity to spend big on the best talents around.

Obviously, Bellingham is a very special talent. So Liverpool may be prepared to throw their more measured approach out of the window on this occasion.

But there can be little doubt that it will become a lot harder to do a deal should he keep performing at his current level.
