Robbie Mustoe believes that many do not actually realise how good one Liverpool player is after their emphatic win over Bournemouth on Sunday.
The Reds made a real statement in the Premier League title race at the Vitality Stadium. Plenty would have been worried for Jurgen Klopp’s men with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah amongst those sidelined. And of course, Liverpool were beaten at the same ground last season.
It took some time for Liverpool to break the Cherries down. But they were absolutely ruthless in the second-half, with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota both scoring twice.
Many do not realise how good Diogo Jota has been for Liverpool
Jota has been in unbelievable form since his return from injury. He has now scored three goals and provided three assists in his last three league games. But what makes that run all the more remarkable is that Jota has been on the pitch for around 130 minutes across those three appearances. That means that he has been directly involved in a goal every 22 minutes.

“Diogo Jota is so good. I think he’s so good,” he said.
“He’s not always the first on the team sheet. Often at times, he comes off the bench, I know he’s had his injuries. Many out there don’t realise how good he is. I asked him a question afterwards about what do you do special for your finishing. His finishing’s so good, from difficult angles. He finds the corners all the time. And not just that, his link-up play, his assisting play, his busyness, he drops into the space sometimes, does the Firmino thing really well as well.
“When you’ve got a guy like that who can play as a 10, play as a seven, or 11, or a number nine, brilliant. I just think he’s a little under-appreciated. The class that he’s got and how important he might be for Liverpool going forward.”
Reds look to be hitting top gear at the perfect time
Arsenal fans will certainly be concerned about the form both Liverpool and Manchester City are now showing. The Gunners put five past Crystal Palace on Saturday, but that matched the tally of goals they had scored across their previous seven games combined.
Liverpool have now scored eight in their last two. And it was particularly impressive because they beat Bournemouth without Mohamed Salah.
Obviously, replacing Salah is impossible. But Jota is stepping into the talisman role superbly. And Liverpool now look like the team to beat in the title race.
