‘I think he might’: Jurgen Klopp could change ‘brilliant’ Liverpool player’s position vs Burnley - pundit

Liverpool face Burnley on Saturday in a game that the Reds should be winning with ease.

Without being disrespectful, Liverpool are miles better than Burnley, and this is the perfect fixture for the Reds to get back on track after their loss to Arsenal last weekend.

However, heading into this game, the Reds do have a few selection issues to contend with.

Thiago Alcantara is injured again, Joel Matip remains sidelined while Ibrahima Konate is unavailable for selection after his red card last week.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Clinton Morrison has been discussing how the Reds will cope without Konate, and he reckons that Joe Gomez could shift to centre-back in order to cover for the Frenchman’s absence with Andy Robertson coming back into the side.

Gomez to play at centre-back

Morrison shared his verdict on how the Reds could line up here.

“Do you know what I think he might go with Gomez at centre-back, he can play young Quansah, but if he uses Gomez there it could allow him to use Robertson from the start. He’s been brilliant, they trust him now, he had a sticky patch last season but I think he’s been outstanding,” Morrison said.

Makes sense

This is exactly how Liverpool should line up against Burnley.

The Reds are often at their best when Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are playing in the two full-back roles, and they now have the option to use those two players in their best positions once again.

Gomez has been brilliant when playing as a full-back in recent weeks, but let’s not forget, he’s a centre-back by trade and he’d be more than capable of playing alongside Van Dijk against Burnley this weekend.

In our view, Jurgen Klopp would be wise to use Gomez at centre-back in this game.
