'I think': Alan Shearer shares what he believes would've happened if Liverpool signed Harry Kane

Alan Shearer has now been discussing what may have happened if Harry Kane had joined Liverpool when leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Shearer was speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast and was rejecting the idea that Kane was now finding it easy in the Bundesliga.

Kane already has a remarkable goalscoring record for Bayern Munich, one that is improving by the game.

But Shearer was convinced that Kane would have been doing the same at Liverpool or Manchester City had he made the move up north from Tottenham.

He said: “People are saying that suddenly his ratio has got better and people will say, yeah, the league is easier. I don’t think it’s that.

“I think the fact is he is now playing in a team that is dominant so he is now doing the numbers he probably would have done if he was playing in a team like Man City or Liverpool.

“What a player he is.”

Of course, the prospect of Harry Kane in this free-flowing Liverpool attack would be quite remarkable.

Darwin Nunez is improving all the time, but Kane could have taken Jurgen Klopp’s team to new heights.

Although, Tottenham fans will rightly point out that Kane could be doing the same if he stuck around under Ange Postecoglou.

Son Heung-Min has been doing excellently in Kane’s absence, and fans can now only imagine how well the England captain would have done under their new boss.

And despite it being fun to consider, Tottenham do have much more pressing dilemmas at hand.

If Kane’s presence was hard to replicate, then the same can now be said for the injured James Maddison.

And with no natural replacement in the first team, Postecoglou may now be better off looking to his academy.

Jamie Donley has shown massive improvements of late, and could be the perfect Maddison replacement.

Alan Shearer may be right in suggesting that Kane would have been on course for the golden boot at Liverpool, but given the way he left Tottenham, it never seemed realistic that he would stay in England.

And that situation will probably always remain a hypothetical one.

But Kane’s scoring in Germany shouldn’t be down played because just because league he’s playing in, rather the striker should be receiving the credit he deserves.
