Shaka Hislop has suggested what result he believes Manchester City will want when Arsenal host Liverpool in the Premier League this afternoon.

The Emirates is set to play host to a mouthwatering fixture on Sunday. Third place Arsenal face top of the table Liverpool.

Of course, nothing will be decided after today’s game. However, there is an opportunity for the Reds to go eight points clear of the Gunners with a win.

Manchester City will want Arsenal to beat Liverpool

Arsenal meanwhile, will leap above City and to within two points of Jurgen Klopp’s side should they secure the victory.

With Manchester City playing on Monday, many City fans will be glued to the game. Pep Guardiola’s side are currently level on points with Arsenal. So they could end the weekend in third place.

Nevertheless, speaking on ESPN, Shaka Hislop suggested that the Cityzens would rather see Liverpool beaten to really blow the title race wide open.

“I think City want a draw,” he said initially.

“No, no, no, I take that back. City want Arsenal to win. I think City’s gaze is firmly on Liverpool. City feel they have the beating of Arsenal as it is right now, and Liverpool being the biggest challenge. If you see Liverpool play at any time recently, you fully understand that. I think everything is just clicking so nicely for them.”

Slightly more important game for the Gunners

Arsenal may not mind the idea of being underdogs in the title race right now. Ultimately, the Gunners know what they are capable of. And they will have the belief that they can win the battle come the end of the year.

However, that task will become a monumental one if they lose to Liverpool. An eight point gap is difficult enough before you even factor in that City will briefly have two games in hand.

Finishing above both sides will then be a massive ask.

Liverpool can certainly recover from a defeat, but it may be too much for Arsenal – particularly given the momentum the Reds will gain from securing another big three points.
