'I saw it yesterday': Rio Ferdinand says he has to shout out one Liverpool star after Bournemouth win

Rio Ferdinand has praised Virgil van Dijk after comments he heard from the Liverpool star after their win over Bournemouth on Sunday.

Virgil van Dijk is flying again this season. Liverpool currently top the Premier League table, with only one defeat in the top-flight. And that loss came in incredibly controversial circumstances.

Van Dijk looks to have been back to his best. The Dutchman had previously had to deal with questions about whether his best days were behind him.

The centre-back sustained a serious injury which ruled him out for most of the 2020/21 season. And given that he turns 33 this summer, some may have previously thought that he had reached the end of his peak.

But van Dijk has been brilliant this season. And speaking on Vibe with Five, Rio Ferdinand has not only been impressed by the Liverpool star’s displays on the pitch, but also what he is hearing from him off it.

“You know who I have to shout out? Virgil van Dijk, because I saw it yesterday where he said, he obviously doesn’t agree with what’s been said by us pundits and people in the media, but he understands it. ‘You guys have got to do your job,’ he said. ‘I get it’. And there’s a lot of players that don’t accept that,” he said.

Reds approaching top gear

Liverpool definitely appear to be in a really good place right now. They were missing so many key players against Bournemouth on Sunday, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Andrew Robertson, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah. And yet, they ran out 4-0 winners against one of the brilliant sides in the division of late.

Ibrahima Konate was exceptional against the Cherries. But van Dijk did not appear to put a foot wrong. And it has been a similar story across the season.

Certainly, van Dijk probably does not need to worry about responding to any criticism for this term.
