Another game, and it was another remarkable night for Jurgen Klopp and his young Liverpool squad against Southampton at Anfield.

Klopp fielded a lot of his youngsters from the off against The Saints, and although the visitors made a strong start, Liverpool were eventually able to secure a comfortable win.

And if it looked like it would be Lewis Koumas’ night to be in the headlines for much of the game, Jayden Danns certainly stole the show late on.

The 18-year-old looked incredibly fresh off of the bench, and showed the exact kind of goal scoring touch that was alluding Cody Gakpo throughout the game.

Gakpo did work tirelessly to get his goal, but ultimately left another game without reward.

And with Darwin Nunez thought to be nearing a return soon enough, it doesn’t seem as if the Dutchman has done much to suggest he deserves to keep his spot.

But tonight was all about Jayden Danns in his short cameo, a player who has definitely proven that he belongs with the first team.

Perhaps Klopp may even be disappointed that he won’t be able to work with the Liverpool youngster next season having watched his instinctive goal-scoring against Southampton.

And to that end, it’ll be interesting to see how close Danns is now getting himself to the first team squad when all are fit.

Liverpool will clearly have a plan in place for the future of all these youngsters, and it’s evidently working so well already.

But it will be interesting to see if Danns has now catapulted his reputation and position in Klopp’s Liverpool squad after this Southampton double.

And if the likes of Xabi Alonso or Ruben Amorim were watching on tonight, or any other manager linked with the job at Anfield for that matter, they will surely be buoyed to work at a club with such a rich academy, brimming with talent.

Liverpool are clearly giving these youngsters the platform and environment to succeed, and their set-up should prove an example to others.

All that being said, pundit Ally McCoist was actually really disappointed with one Liverpool player tonight
