Fara Williams believes that Darwin Nunez has a lot more to his game than many realise, insisting that the Liverpool star has the potential to be a top striker.
Darwin Nunez was one of several players who endured a frustrating day at the office on Sunday as Liverpool drew with Manchester United.
The Uruguayan has failed to score in his last seven Premier League appearances. And there will be question marks over whether Nunez will be able to score the goals to fire Liverpool to the title this season.
Darwin Nunez has the potential to be a top striker for Liverpool
Nunez’s record throughout his time at Liverpool works out at a goal every three games. And when you consider the quality the Reds have in the final third, that is clearly not good enough.

“If he can get his consistency, he’s a top striker. He can be a top striker. I really like Nunez, I think he’s got a lot to his game – more than what people see. And sometimes, especially with strikers, for him, he works too hard. It sounds really stupid to say a striker works hard, but he works so hard off the ball, in terms of speed and pressing,” she said.
“I’m not a Liverpool fan, but as fans, they like to see players working off the ball. And I think he does that a lot. But I’m saying then he’s just erratic, he still has that tempo and that intensity in front of goal. And he doesn’t slow himself down and doesn’t set himself. His feet are never really set in front of goal. He gets in good positions, but as I say, I think he’s just playing all the time. His head’s going at such an intensity. He’s never steady, he’s never balanced.
“But as a player, I really like him.”
Reds may be concerned Uruguayan is yet to really kick on
In fairness to Nunez, he is not the only player who should be doing much better in front of goal. Mohamed Salah has been unbelievable again this season. But no other player in the Liverpool squad has scored more than four goals in the top-flight so far.
Of course, Nunez is the one playing in the middle of the front three. And his record with Benfica before his move was superb. So supporters would be forgiven for wanting more.
The worry will be that he does not appear to have kicked on this season after a tough first campaign on Merseyside.
But while he brings so much to the team in a number of ways, you would imagine that Jurgen Klopp will be prepared to give him time to improve.
And clearly, Williams is confident that he could be devastating for Liverpool if everything falls into place for Nunez in the near future.
