'I mean...': Joe Gomez makes claim about Manchester United fans ahead of facing Liverpool

It’s another big one this weekend as Manchester United host Liverpool.

The Red Devils will be looking to derail their bitter rivals’ pursuit of the Premier League title and will hope a win at Old Trafford can be a dagger to the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Of course, winning for United will easier said than done. Despite winning in the cup the other week, Liverpool’s form overall suggests they’ll come into the game as strong favourites.

And after United lost at Chelsea in midweek, there could well be an overriding feeling inside Old Trafford of pressure and demand from the home fans.

Certainly, with Erik ten Hag under pressure as well, the United fans will be hoping to see an attacking performance that shows they are going in the right direction for next season.

And speaking about what he expects from United, Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has suggested that anything but a positive performance from the home side will have the Old Trafford crowd turning.

Joe Gomez makes claim about Manchester United fans ahead of Liverpool

Gomez has been speaking to the Liverpool website ahead of the game and answered a load of questions about the clash.

But when asked specifically about what he expects from the United team in terms of approach, Gomez suggested that the fans will turn if they simply sit off and try to defend.

“I mean, they’re at home. I don’t think the atmosphere [and fans] would appreciate them playing a low block and sitting off so I’m sure they will be up for it and will come out at us, and it’s up to us to deal with that atmosphere and go for them,” Gomez said.

Old Trafford crowd will want a response

After the defeat at Chelsea in midweek, the home crowd on Sunday will be expecting some sort of response from their United players.

The game with Chelsea just shows how quickly the mood can change around a whole football club.

United were minutes away from coming back from two down and winning. Had it stayed like that, then the feeling going into Liverpool would have been a positive one.

Instead, there is an overriding feeling of ‘here we go again’ and as Gomez says here, the United fans will be expecting the home side to come out and attack.

Quite whether Ten Hag goes that way, remains to be seen.
